In our everlasting quest to improve the quality of torrents on Boxtorrents I have been (maybe not so) secretly working on a new feature. The
Boxtorrents Adoption Centre.
The Adoption Centre has a list of torrents that have no owner (pruned) or the owner has not visited in a long time. The idea is that other (power) users can adopt the torrent and refurbish it, improve the description, add/remove some files etc.
You can find more info on the
Adoption Centre page.
Enjoy

Upd: we have received
a lot of adoption requests, it will take some time to review them all.
Update 2: please only make an adoption request if you're going to do more than simply seed it. We want you to update the description and torrent contents to bring them in line with our new rules.
I changed the way the avatars are drawn on the comments page, I wanted to get rid of the Javascript resize because it doesn't work perfectly and some people are uploading huge images.
If your avatar doesn't look right go to your Profile and set it the new way, it will try to guess if your avatar is too big.

I finished the big changes I made a while back. All old features (including the torrent swapping and the top10) are back.
If you encounter any problems please let me know.
--Jarudin--
PS. The bonus torrents seem to be working really well

we have currently 225 torrents unseeded of which 115 actually have leechers, that's only
3%!
The ratio tracking will not work properly until further notice.
All public/anonymous accounts have incidentally also been disabled.
Update: Fixed - that was easier than I expected.
I'll get the public accounts working asap.

For those of you who haven't noticed (and for those who have) the tracker is currently down right now. We don't have an ETA as to when it will be back up, but we are working on finding a solution to get it back up and running ASAP.
Please do not make forum posts or send help requests regarding this matter. We know it is down and at the moment there is nothing we can do to change that.
Thank you for your patience in this matter.
Update 03/07/2008 02:50:57 : The tracker is back online (Force)
Looking at the slight explosion of forums posts concerning PHP errors and a malfunctioning tracker I guess I owe you guys an explanation.
I'm actually trying to accomplish two things:
1. Improve MySQL database layout
2. Refactor heavily used pages to allow for better caching and add some Web2.0 stuff to make the site faster (hopefully).
I'm about half way done with the MySQL database improvements, until then the topten will be disabled (the code on that page is horrible). After I rewrite the torrent swapping I'll be tackling the user accounts some time this week or next week or the week after than or .. anyway I'll try to make it go smoother than the previous 'improvement'.
As you may have noticed I've already done 'something' with the torrent tables as the tracker wasn't feeling too happy with new torrents today. All those issues have been fixed, if there's anything I've missed let me know either by PM or by posting here.
As for the refactoring, I've added some minor Web2.0 stuff to the details page, fancy tabs!

(note to self: check with Internet Explorer) Expect a lot more things like that. If you have any suggestions on nifty web2.0 thingamajigs feel free to post, oh I will be implementing a rich-text-editior aka wysiwyg for the descriptions and I've already got some plans for the keyword system. I'll also be adding those fancy tabs to more pages.
To conclude, don't be too alarmed if something breaks, if it's still broken after an hour make a post here and I'll eventually see it.
Oh and before I forget ..
we have a new staff member! All hail
kureshii, many of you might recognize him by his omgwtfcute avatar. He'll be helping out answering your questions.
G'night

We did some unscheduled maintenance yesterday due to the exposure of a security bug.
I have rewritten the login procedure, it may affect people with dynamic IPs.
After that the server went down for a couple of hours because of scheduled maintenance of our host.
Everything is back up and running.
